I’ve called a friend called John (not his real name) who runs a homely Pizzeria down the lane from where I work and he’s been doing so for the past 3 years. A few weeks ago, I was nursing a pretty strong appetite for a Pizza Margherita during work, so I paid him a visit. We chatted for a while over his (delicious) pizza and he asked me if I knew of trustworthy people to work for him. The reason? One of his delivery boys—a new hire—had taken 20 pizzas for a party onto his car and ran for it. He literally took off with the pizzas, never to return again. Needless to say, the recipients were mad because their party was ruined. They cancelled the order, and he lost 20 large pizzas and an employee all in one day. Here’s the cherry on top—he took the iPhone that John had given him for work. So I had to ask him, “Weren’t you tracking him, John?” Surely that was the obvious thing to do in a business like his. He blinked at me before offering a bleak “No”. In fact, it didn’t even occur to him that tracking would be a possibility for a business as small as his. And that to me sounded almost similar to another business owner’s tale. Delivery services based businesses are very risky. They run on trust more than anything else, because there is no way a manager sitting at the office can know for sure whether their employee is indeed stuck in city traffic or if he’s bluffing. Sadly, John suffered a similar misfortune: he trusted his employee to take those pizzas to the party like an honest man. This never would have had happened if he had installed an iPhone 5 monitoring software onto his employees phone. Why is Employee Tracker Important? When you are watching over employees that care constantly on the go, you’re taking on the role of a fleet manager, and you simply cannot be one without a tracker. You could be managing a… Courier Service Supply Chain Take Out Restaurant Online Retail Store Taxi Service …and all of these need you to keep track of your always moving employees. Now John’s business runs really well for a local pizzeria and on a good day, he can get around 5 orders at one time. This means that he needs to simultaneously be in contact with 5 different employees at when the order gets dispatched. Although John has given his workers an iPhone to communicate (he calls to ask them where they are), a tracker would give him real time insight. He needs to know where they are, what routes they are taking and when they’ll be back. It would make his life so easy, wouldn’t it? The same principle applies to your delivery service business. You need a tracker to know your employees’ whereabouts. How would you know your employee isn’t using the company vehicle for his personal errands? Or if they’re taking the shortest route that would save time and fuel cost? You’ll know it with a tracker, that’s how. John wasn’t using this facility and he lost nearly $300 on that day on the stolen pizzas and even more on hiring a new guy. Now that you’re convinced your delivery services business needs employee monitoring, here are more details on how it works. How the GPS Tracker Works First, you’re going to need the right app. Because you want to keep an eye on your employees, you’ll need one that lets you view their current GPS location. You need to put this app into all your worker’s phones. Once that is done, they’ll become your “target” and you’ll be able to see them move on the map, which should tell you where they are at all times. Now of course, it is unlikely that you’ll spend your entire day map gazing. This is why an app like XNSPY gives you the option to view their location history so you can review it later and know where they’ve been. A great thing about this feature is that it lets you view their travel route. So in case you missed when they took a wrong turn to visit their friend during work hours, you can review it later. Another feature you can use is geo-fencing. What you have to do is build a fence, especially if you have a fixed travel route. If you have a distribution business, mark the warehouse and the retail store as the marked areas. You will be notified whenever your target (employee in your case) enters or leaves a safe or unsafe area. A log will be created for you. If John had been using a GPS tracker or the geo-fencing feature, he would have known right away when his employee left the marked areas which could have been the route to the said house party. GPS thus helps you know where your employees are in real time, what routes they used, their location history and if they enter or leave a safe area. How Would This Improve Your Business? You now know the downside of not monitoring your employees correctly. But once you start using it, you’ll realize you have: Increased profits Time management Route management Decrease in employee fraud More customer satisfaction But let’s not automatically assume suspicion. Not every employee is a bad apple. Employee monitoring informs you if they are safe and on the correct route when they can’t find their destination. Did you hear the story where cops shot pizza man because of a misunderstanding? And so the app should keep you informed of their safety. Start Tracking! Managing a mobile workforce is impossible without GPS tracking. Not only do you need to know where your employees are, keeping track of their routes can save you tons of money. It will also help you pick out the bad seeds and prevent theft. The thing is, as terrible as it
