I’ve spoken to a lot of parents—mothers and fathers BOTH—that go through these emotions when they are balancing parenting with a full time job. So, the real challenge is not overcoming these emotions—it is accepting that they will exist and finding workable solutions. Call Recording Whenever I used to get some time with my kids, they were always glued to their smartphones, making long phone calls. My concern was real. Calls and SMS Logs To check who make calls to my kids, I always check their calls and SMS details. The app tells you caller’s ID and time of call. So I never miss on any anonymous calls. Also, I get all the text conversations made my children. It gets a bit tiring at times to read through all that hefty amount of text but it’s worth doing for their safety. Watchlist Names, Tags, Places All you have to do is enter suspicious words, contact names, certain places in to the app and there will be an instant alert on your control panel whenever those words will be used on the phone. IM Chats My son uses WhatsApp and Viber very often. So this was a must have feature for a monitoring app like this. No matter how long the conversations are, XNSPY keeps a record of every word sent or received. Now I’ve heard that they’ve added Snapchat and Tinder into the mix as well, so I’m going to be expanding my parenting avenues into those apps as well. I must admit, I am not too familiar with them myself, but as parents, we’ve got trust our instincts and have a little faith. XNSPY—Was it Worth it? It sure was! A perfect app for working parents. So you never fail on prioritizing stuff due to time shortage. I am glad I made the choice to level up my parenting game. Location Tracking is Surprisingly Suitable for Setting Curfews

Lately a lot of XNSPY parents have been sharing their experiences with the app, answering the question that we put up on this blog last month: what do YOU use XNSPY for? Here is the story of yet another mother and how she uses our location tracking feature to set curfews for her sons. She is truly the modern mother who has put technology on her side and made the best of her sons’ smartphone usage. My sons have a 9 o clock curfew, which means they have to be home by then no matter what. But of course, they are teenagers and they break this rule when they think I’m not home. They are growing boys and it only seems natural that they would want to go out for a few hours. Experience life oon their own, without their mother hovering over them. While I understand the place that they are coming from, I do not approve. Because when they sneak out, they are blatantly lying to me. That is neither good for our relationship nor their own safety. Sometimes, they sneak out after they think I’ve fallen asleep. And honestly, I was getting tired of them trying to double-cross me. I am their mother, but I’m also their disciplinarian. What you have to do is install the tracking app on your child’s phone, and then it basically does all the work for you. Because the app runs invisibly in the backgrounds of their phones, they have no way of uninstalling it and tricking me anyway. Mreover, they think I’ve developed some form of mom superpowers that tells me if they’re breaking curfew without my notice. Now, if they’re not home on time, I just use XNSPY to find out where they are and go pick them up myself. It works, because now they just follow the rules or have to face the embarrassment of being picked up by their mother. Location tracking is also great for security, because if you feel like your kid is in danger or some form of trouble where they’re being held against their will, you’ll know exactly where they are. Why I Use XNSPY: Recording My Son’s Phone Surroundings

This month, we are really focusing on the experiences of our customers to drive this blog. We have always said that this blog is a conversation, and we want this place to be a platform where your voices are heard. Keeping up with that trend, we chose this story of a mother who puts to use one of our most underrated features: the surroundings recorder. If you put it to the correct use as this mom does, you will find you have a lot to benefit from. We’re going to let the mom take center stage… Whenever my son does not come back home on time, I always assume the worst. I’m a mother and when the baby bird is away from the nest, the most horrible scenarios of where he might be crosses my mind. What if he’s lost his way? What if he’s been robbed? What if he’s been kidnapped? It seems silly doesn’t it… the silly mind of an anxious mother, cooking up stories in her head just because her son went out for a couple of hours. It wasn’t until a kid in his school did end up getting kidnapping that I knew my fears were valid and I had to take his safety more seriously. What I did was find a way to ‘bug’ him, a way to record phone surroundings with the lovely XNSPY so that I’d always know what’s going on around him. I’m going to give you a step-by-step instruction (from a parent’s point of view) on how you can do the same for your child. Installing XNSPY Okay, I’ll be the first to admit that this I may be overstepping some boundaries in trying to explain the installation process. Jenny and the Customer Support at XNSPY can do this so much better, and they probably have the technical knowledge as well. But I wanted to explain my process from a customer’s point of view, and I’m basically only going through how I made my choices in choosing a subscription. So first off, if you’re looking to record your kid’s surroundings, you’ll have to install XNSPY on their phone. I just bought it off this website. According to what your need is, they have a Basic package and a Premium one. The Basic starts at $8.33 a month and the Premium for $16.66 a month. I chose to purchase the Premium one because it has a lot more features that let me monitor my son even better. If you’re not that confident with your understanding of apps and such, don’t worry. You can just talk to their customer support and they’ll guide you through. Bugging Your Kid Onto the actual recording phone surroundings features. Once you have completed the installation process, you will get the username and password that will help you log onto the XNSPY Control Panel on your computer. From here, go onto the Remote Control, where you will notice the record phone surroundings option. Now all there’s left for you to do is enter the number of minutes you want to be recorded. If you want to simply check to see if your kid is at a friend’s house, you could record for 5 minutes. If you want to virtually be with them till they get home, you can record more minutes. The Right Precaution I’m quite happy with how XNSPY has worked for me because I can use it not only as a way to reassure myself that my son is fine but also as a safety measure. When my son is away on football practice, or out to see a friend, I can just check in on him. This is when I knew that I had to come up with a formalized system to make things work. I always encourage intercommunication amongst my employees, especially when they are out on the field. So, I thought to myself, I need a way to monitor those communications if I’m going to have a good handle on the control of my operations. This way, I know exactly at what time a particular conversation went on between two employee or an employee and a client. Keep an Alert for Trigger Words This is a really useful tip, and one that saves me a lot of time. As a manager or expediter, chances are that there is plenty more that you’ve got to do at the office without having to look over an outbound staff. What you’ve got to do then is to set alarms for certain trigger words. For example, I’ve set triggers on “delivery” or “merchandiser”. This way, I know exactly when a key activity is taking place out in the field that needs my attention right away. 4. Keep Check of the Media Folders Now, apart from just the chats, my employees exchange media on WhatsApp as well. This include voice notes from meetings, pictures of package deliveries or ticket times, videos recording the arrival of the shipment and the like. Remotely Lock Conversations Another thing you can do is remotely lock the phone which automatically locks the conversation. So, What’s the Big Challenge in Digital Parenting Anyway?

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: your kids are digital natives. You have begrudgingly become digital parents in the process. And there’s your challenge. The fact that in this area, you are one step behind your children. Your kids are more expertise, savviness and general knowledge about their smart devices and the internet than you do and you find yourself playing catch up. What’s a Digital Native? What’s a digital native? Let’s refresh. A digital native is someone who was born right after the proliferation of smart technology. You would probably associate this definition to Generation Z—the kids who have been born into the “iPhone” era. But don’t be so quick in that assumption. A digital native could belong to any generation, as long as they lived through a big digital breakthrough (the internet, the laptop, the tablet and so forth). Because they have grown into a world where these technologies were already the norm, they have a great understanding of how they work. They are more familiar with it than the people who experienced the advent of those technologies. Therefore, by this definition, you child is a digital native. They are way more familiar with the smartphones, tablets, social media and the internet than you will ever be. This is because when they were born, these things already exist. Hence, they never had to go through the process of learning and unlearning. They grew up at a time where these things existed as a reality and were already widespread. What’s a Digital Immigrant? What’s a digital immigrant, then? Let’s refresh. A digital immigrant is someone who has been born before the new technologies became widespread. This means that they lived through the invention of laptops, smartphones, tablets, or even the internet. Therefore, digital immigrants are people who have not been exposed to these technologies from an early age. Because they haven’t been born into a time when the inventions were already a reality, they have to go through an adoption period and are thus not as proficient with its use as the natives. They are not as quick in picking up and staying up to date with the new technologies either. For example, when Skype was first invented, many digital immigrants were not as quick to adapt to it and much rather preferred their traditional ways of making phone calls. Perhaps they blamed the poor connectivity or the lags. Whatever their reasons were, they were comfortable with what they already knew and thus were not too keen on switching to a new form of communication. It’s why you won’t find many digital immigrants using Snapchat or Instagram or any other new social media fads that the kids go through. Where Does Digital Parenting Come in? So here’s the dilemma: you, the parents are digital immigrants and your children are the digital natives. Your understanding of social media or the internet culture will always be a step behind your children. You wouldn’t understand the language, the norms and values, the memes, the different etiquettes and the ways to communicate on the internet like your children would. In fact, your children don’t even have to think about these things. They just know how to behave in what digital platform. You know how you assume certain roles in different settings? Like how you behave differently inside your home? Then you assume a completely different behavior when you sit in a restaurant? Or when you go to work? Or when you have a formal dinner at a fancy restaurant? Or when you’re simply stopping by In N Out for a burger? You don’t even know how you make the switch, but you just do. You play a different “role” in all these different social settings. The internet is no different. Your children know when they must switch to a different role. They know what behaviors are to be adopted in what settings. They know what “language” is to be spoken in what platform. And there’s the challenge. Parenting in a foreign world. Understanding a foreign culture and then taking charge in it. It is harder and simpler at the same time.

Growing up, I would listen to a lot of Stevie Nicks. I had her posters up my wall and I would twirl around, shawl in hand, pretending to be her. Why Should Parents Know About the “Tinder” App?

Before I begin this blog, I’d like to let you know that I’m not writing this to tell you that Tinder is a scary app that you should be wary of at all costs. That is simply not what this blog is about. I’m writing this to simply inform you of what the app is, what it is for, and what it has done for a lot of people. Of course when it comes to children, there will often be a lapse in judgment that leads to a misuse. But I’d like to first tell you what the app is and why it should be worth your while to know all about it. What is it? Tinder is a dating app. It is essentially a platform that lets interested candidates meet each other by enabling communication between the two parties through a chat based interface. How Does it Work? The app’s function is simple. It uses location tracking to list down photos and profiles of people that are your potential matches and are close to you. It uses a swiping function. If you’re interested in a profile, you swipe right… if you’re not interested in a profile, you swipe left to move on to the next photo. The user who has been swiped right on gets a notification. Are Users Known? Nope, users are kept largely anonymous—as anonymous as it gets with their photo on there—until such time that both parties “like” each other and are able to message each other. Moreover, the user’s location is known. In fact the user’s proximity as close to within a mile is known. Is There an Age Limit? Users are supposed to be for ages 12 and above. This is actually one of the most popular dating websites in teens and young adults. Is there Something to Worry About? There are a few things you need to keep in mind because they can potentially be dangerous if not dealt with from the get go: Users as young as 12 are allowed on there. This means if your child is on Tinder, they are exposed to people of all ages in their proximity. Your child’s location is absolutely known, which makes them vulnerable. Given the above two points, you can see that if a predator were to be in your area, it would be rather easy for them to look for victims using this app. Older men trying to prey on younger girls (or even the opposite) can easily find their match here. It’s basically the same danger as any other social media app presents. It is just the location tracking nature of this app—which is what has made this app so famous—which can be potentially dangerous for young children. So what we’re telling parents is not to be afraid; we’re just telling to be cautious. Tinder is a popular app, but you should know what it is primarily for (hint: it is the opposite of a long term relationship). You need to be prepared as a parent or guardian, knowing what it can potentially be used for. Moreover, you also need to keep in mind that the location tracking business can be quite dangerous for minors. It’s why we hand over the location tracking power to you. In a stranger’s hand, the ability to track your child can be malicious. So bewared and be prepared.
